Dr. Richard Smith
Dr. Richard Smith received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Molecular and Cell Biology from Pennsylvania State University. He received his DDS from The University of Colorado, Health Science Center, School of Dentistry graduating Cum Laude and his Certificate in Endodontics from Medical College of Georgia, School of Dental Medicine. After graduating dental school, Dr. Smith was commissioned in the United States Navy as a Staff Dental Officer from 1994-1997 and a Staff Endodontist from 1997-2001. During his military service LCDR Smith was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and the Navy Achievement Medal with one Bronze Service Star. He has been in private practice since 2001. He has had his research published in the Journal of Endodontics. Dr. Smith has taught endodontics at Marquette University School of Dentistry and The University of Colorado Health Science Center, School of Dentistry. Dr. Smith is a member of the American Association of Endodontists, American Dental Association, Pennsylvania Dental Association and the Dental Society of Western Pennsylvania. In addition, he has been voted Pittsburgh’s top dentist for the last 12 years. During his time off, Dr. Smith enjoys golfing and traveling. Dr. Smith and his wife, Margaret, reside in the South Hills.
Dr. Albert Tomsic
Dr. Albert Tomsic was born and raised just south of Pittsburgh in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Canon-McMillan High School in 1979, he attended West Virginia University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. He then attended dental school at the University of Pittsburgh and graduated with his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 1987. Dr. Tomsic then practiced general dentistry for the next 20 years, 17 were in his private practice in Canonsburg. During that time, he attended numerous courses to better care for his patients, and from 1998 through 2003 he was a visiting faculty member at the L.D. Pankey Institute in Key Biscayne, FL. As Dr. Al journeyed through these educational experiences, he began to seriously entertain the idea of narrowing his focus to the area of endodontics and doing a two-year residency. So, in 2007, he sold his practice and entered the Post-Graduate Endodontic Program at WVU. In 2009, he earned both his specialty Certificate in Endodontics and his Master of Science Degree in Endodontics.
Dr. Taylor Cook
Dr. Taylor Cook completed his dental training at the University of Iowa. Developing a special interest in endodontics, he continued with his studies at Boston University, training extensively on the latest in endodontic therapies and earning his Certificate in Advanced Graduate Study. Dr. Cook continues to attend educational courses on a regular basis, keeping up with the latest advances in endodontics including root canal therapy, retreatment, pulpotomies, and apicoectomies.
Dr. Cook’s experiences travelling broadly and living in many different areas offers him the gift of appreciating and developing meaningful relationships with patients of different backgrounds. His empathy, gentle touch and compassionate demeanor are appreciated by both patients and team.
When he’s not taking care of patients and their smiles, he enjoys skiing, biking, disc golf and cheering on his favorite Penguins.
A member of the American Association of Endodontists, the American Dental Association as well as the Pennsylvania Dental Association, Dr. Cook sees patients at the Fox Chapel and Lower Burrell (PA) offices.
Dr. Maria Jun
Dr. Maria Jun received her Dental Degree from the University of Connecticut in 2019 and continued on to receive her Certificate in Endodontics at Temple University in 2021. Prior to her dental education, Dr. Jun earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at Wellesley College studying Chemistry. Dr. Jun's goal is to create a comfortable and relaxing environment for patients needing endodontic therapy while providing quality and optimal treatment.
Outside of the dental clinic, Dr. Jun is an active member of her church community, and loves to watch movies, play music, and spend time with her husband.

Dr. Dianna Volk
Dr. Volk earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and received her DDS and Certificate in Endodontics from Columbia University Dental School in 2015.
Dr. Volk chose to pursue a career in dentistry because she enjoys meeting new people and “getting them out of pain”. Her areas of expertise include root canal therapy, retreatment, surgery, trauma, pulp therapy, and pediatrics. She enjoys learning and is very focused on the technical aspects of endodontics. Dr. Volk prides herself on maintaining an open, communicative, and compassionate environment – “which makes the whole process enjoyable for everyone!”
During her free time, she enjoys traveling, golfing, skiing, spending time with her husband, baby daughter, and golden retriever.
Dr. Volk is excited to work closely with our referring dentists while providing the highest quality of dental care to our mutual patients.
Dr. Fernando Ascencio
Dr. Fernando Ascencio was born and raised in Guadalajara, Mexico. After completing high school, he fulfilled his academic career at the University of Pittsburgh. At Pitt he completed a Bachelor of Science, a Doctorate in Dental Medicine, an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency, a Specialty Certificate in Endodontics, and a master’s degree in Dental Science. Dr Ascencio continued to be involved in academics as a part-time faculty at the School of Dental Medicine upon graduating in 2002. He has practiced endodontics in the South Hills of Pittsburgh since 2002. He is a member of the American Association of Endodontists, the American Dental Association, the Christian Medical and Dental Association, the Pennsylvania Dental Association, and the Western Pennsylvania Dental Society. During his free time, he enjoys serving on international mission trips and several ministries at his church. He also plays tennis, soccer and platform tennis. Dr. Ascencio has been selected as a Top Endodontist by Pittsburgh Magazine every year since 2010.
